The pointed wedge shape of the universal nails makes them suitable for numerous types of crevices. The head, rotated by 45 °, creates a torsional component which increases the seal in both vertical and horizontal cracks. Carbon steel, softer than chromium-molybdenum steel, easily fits into cracks without damaging the rock. These are therefore the ideal nails for limestone and the most fragile rocks.
